Double B Outfitters manages the Baggett ranch which is 10,000 acres which has been lightly hunted by family members for the past 17 years under a strict management program. In 2008 Double B began outfitting the ranch under the same strict management program set forth by the ranch owner. We feel we can provide better quality experience for our hunters this way.
We hunt the ranch many different ways. A lot depends on what the deer are doing and what the hunter feels comfortable with. We have permanent blinds near feeders, and we have ground blinds and tripods to go after deer that are not coming to feeders. We also build brush blinds and make use of Ameristep blinds to get a chance at a particular buck. We also rattle and stalk. Basically whatever it takes to get the harvest as long as it is safe and legal. We assign one guide to two hunters. We guide hunts to try and insure that the hunter has the best experience that he can and to insure that we are managing our herd to produce the finest whitetails.
We feel we have a top quality deer herd here on the ranch. The majority of our bucks taken will make P&Y class. We have an abundance of eight and ten points 130" to 140" bucks on the ranch. We also have a few 150" class animals; these animals are very difficult to harvest. Our goal is to increase this number by lowering the hunting pressures that force large deer to go nocturnal. We implemented a protein program on the ranch in March of 2008 for our deer herd. We do not think you will be disappointed with the quality of our deer herd.
All of our rifle hunters should have an opportunity to take a shot at a quality buck. Some of hunters will not shoot for reasons of their own. We will also have hunters that miss. We estimate that the success rate for all hunters will be in the 90% range.
In addition to complimentary field dressing and cold storage of your trophies, Double B can recommend In addition to complimentary field dressing and cold storage of your trophies, Double B can recommend excellent taxidermists in the area. If you plan to depart on a commercial airline with your game, check with your airline to determine the rules for checking ice chests as luggage. Since 9/11 many of the rules have changed. Double B highly recommends that you take all your game with you, however, if you do not take your game, we will distribute to local charities, friends, or other groups who will benefit. We do not condone, nor do we allow, harvesting of animals without the intention of consumption or mounting the animal.
Texas has a wide range of temperature variability during the winter months. Beginning in November and into March is prepared for cold weather particularly in the evenings, nights, and early mornings. Warm clothes and thermals are essentials. A medium insulated or down jacket is appropriate. Include warm socks, gloves, and a scarf. Otherwise regular camouflage hunting clothes, hiking boots with ankle supports and a hat. We have been known to have unseasonably warm days so lighter clothing is also recommended. Casual clothes for dinner. In Texas and with Double B Hunter Orange is not required during the hunt.
For our trophy hunts, we only plan to house 8 hunters at one time. These numbers will allow us to keep the hunting pressure on the ranch low on a week to week basis. The new lodge is complete and is with 2 private rooms with bathrooms in each, a large community room for entertainment and a kitchen with a common washroom. The lodge will sleep 8 guests at one time.
The 10' wrap around porch is a place of leisure for hunters that want to enjoy a quite evening observing the feeding station at camp watching the sun go down. The view from the porch is captivating within itself as the wildlife strolls on by with the time.

This time of year is always exciting for DBO Camp Staff. We are in high gear getting ready for the 2011 deer season.
Just this week Mother Nature Blessed us with several inches of rain on the entire ranch.
The DBO guides have been watching deer for several months now and we have finally spotted a few of the deer that we have been looking for this year. The drought has been hard on all of the wildlife this year. The deer herd is in pretty good shape with several of the bucks sporting good antlers again this year.
We are still in the process of our brush sculpture program along Johnson draw. We look to be complete in a few weeks. This will allow for more indiginous grasses to grow along the draw as well as make for several new stand locations along the draw. We plan on putting some this pushed country in food plots once we get the moisture necessary for the seed to germinate.
The DBO Camp Staff looks forward to seeing all of you again this fall.
We are currently booked for the fall of 2011. However, there is always a chance of cancellations, so call and get your name on the list.
